Pale yellow in colour with golden highlights and a powerful nose of almond, grilled bread and apricot. On tasting, it is balanced with notes of hazelnut and a light smokiness. Nice length on the finish. Tasted December 2011. Barrel fermented with 100% malolactic fermentation, 8 to 12 months ageing in oak casks (20% new oak).

The 2010 is pale straw in color, well balanced and displays toasted brioche, white flower and white peach tones with lively acidity that will prove to age well past 5 years but it is drinkable now.

Home to some of the world's most extraordinary Chardonnays including the famous Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Batard-Montrachet. The village wines are racy with a bouquet of almonds, fern, hawthorn and peaches. The flavours are rich but steely, a characteristic that often distinguishes them from their neighbours in Meursault and Chassagne.

Henri Bourgeois established his domaine in Chavignol, a town which is probably more famous for its goat's cheese - Crottin de Chavignol - than its wine. Nevertheless, the domaine has become one of the most important houses in Sancerre, operating both as a grower and as a négociant. The Bourgeois family have been making wine in Sancerre for ten generations. Today the firm is run by Jean-Marie Bourgeois, with apparent boundless energy. Having grown to an impressive 65 hectares. 'Les Baronnes' comes from the slopes separating the Chavignol from Sancerre, the terroir being an amalgam of clay and limestone chalk and is more vinous and herbaceous than it's white cousins with notes of elderflower and Ivy as well as ripe kiwi fruit. Masses of ripe red berry flavours make this fantastic summer drinking. Try this rosé chilled to accompany a summer picnic - very refreshing.
